We truly believe in the power of drawings and the Drawing of the Year celebrates and gives platform to the very best talents across the world. Receiving thousands of entries each year, the annual competition is back for a fourth year and for our biggest year ever - with £30,000 GBP ($35,000 USD) worth of prizes to be won across 5 award categories!
We’re also excited to announce that Affinity are gifting Affinity V2 Universal Licence for free to everyone who enters!

We are very proud to announce that the Drawing of the Year 2022 is free to enter for everyone.
Our mission is to support and unite the creative community at all skill levels; we’re very excited to bring you the biggest and most inclusive competition of its kind that celebrates talent without boundaries. This is a truly accessible-for-all competition where creatives of all levels and all backgrounds can be rightly recognised for their skills at the highest level.
Drawings are very powerful tools, and the competition awards those that have excelled in creating works that need no words to stand out.
We want to give special thanks to Affinity for supporting the Drawing of the Year 2022, Bentley’s MicroStation for supporting this year’s Architectural Award. Each category is judged on: Originality of approach, style and/or content; use of media and the graphic and aesthetic quality; ability to represent and communicate intent or narrative; extent of impact and proposition.
All entries are entered into all the categories giving you the best chance of being recognised for one of the awards.

Awarded to an outstanding drawing or series of drawings of exemplar quality. This award recognises the most accomplished imagery across all mediums and styles. The judges are looking for drawings that excel in their creative representations, originality, mastery of media, narrative and purpose.

This year’s Architectural Award is brought to you in partnership with Bentley’s MicroStation.
Awarded to a standout architectural representation of exemplar quality. This award recognises all types of architectural drawings, from those that excel in traditional drawing methods, to captivating visualisations to innovative creative imagery. The judges are looking for the most accomplished architectural drawings across all mediums and styles.

Awarded to an outstanding drawing which is underpinned by an environmental or sustainable narrative. Recognising the importance of environmentally conscientious design and the role creators can take in designing more sustainable futures - this award showcases those that excel in conveying strong environmental awareness, approaches or ideologies through their imagery.

Awarded to an outstanding drawing which excels in conveying strong narratives and wider dialogues through its medium and beyond its visual representation. The award recognises the most accomplished visual story-tellers, those that have achieved great levels of communication through critical, subtle or emotive visual narratives. The judges are looking for representations that need no words to convey their stories.

Awarded to a standout visualisation of exemplar quality. The award recognises the most accomplished visualised imagery that excel as key mechanisms for representation. The judges will assess imagery holistically with particular focus on composition, lighting, atmosphere, materiality and narrative. The purpose of this award is to celebrate visualisations as a fundamental tool within creative industries and to showcase their power in conveying ideas, narratives and proposals.

Entry opens 1st December 2022 - prepare your best works and enter your drawings and imagery for judging!

The 31st December 2022 is the halfway point to the final deadline! Don’t leave submitting too late - avoid stress and submit sooner rather than later.

The submission process closes at 23.59 GMT on the 31st January 2023. No entries will be accepted after this date - so don’t miss out!

February to March 2023 is when our expert panel of judges meet to review all submissions - good luck!

Join us for the announcement of the winners and commended drawings at our live video announcement!

Following the live winners announcement, throughout April 2023 the Winners + Finalists will be published across our channels and showcased on our winners website. All those that are also published will be notified - so make sure you check your emails regularly (especially your spam / junk - just in case!)
The shortlisted entries will be notified and certificates will also be available for a limited time only.
international recognition
The Drawing of the Year is a widely-recognised, aspirational award series for the architecture and design community - past winners have gone on to kickstart their careers with their own design studios and even working on prestigious films.
+ INTERNATIONAL PUBLICATION FOR THE SHORTLIST
The winners and commendations will be published internationally to hundreds of thousands across our website, social media and as part of the Virtual Exhibition.
The shortlist will be published in the internationally available ‘IDEAS POCKETBOOK 2023’ publication; the ultimate inspiration reference. Check out 2022 Edition featuring last year’s shortlist.
