“Ren and Wen’s drawing is a sublime example of a successful composite drawing, combining a total of eighteen drawings to form one cohesive and immersive piece.” The judges were inspired by the jointly created imagery, commending the authors’ collaborative endeavours in creating such an impressive piece.
“The drawing successfully and coherently unites a vast amount of information together to create an image that you want to continue exploring, finding more details each time you look. It’s rare for a drawing to convey this level of information without it getting lost in itself and becoming illegible. Ren and Wen’s work is truly an impressive example of a composite drawing that exudes its narrative through and through.”

“Komnenic’s piece ‘Overthought’ is the definition of a narrative drawing. It perfectly encapsulates its story and makes for an emotive and evocative visual narrative that we can all relate to in our own ways.” The judges applauded the power of Komnenic’s imagery in portraying the underlying meaning and emotion. “I can really empathise with the figure within the piece, I can almost feel their emotion amongst the endless towering walls of thought, as if I were a lost child in a supermarket.”

Judges’ comments

The judges praised the architectural propositions in reinforcing the narrative that flowed through Ishmael’s series of imagery. “Ishmael’s imagery is testament to someone who really understands and utilises architectural tectonics as a tool and mechanism to embed and communicate narrative.” The judges enjoyed the proposed ‘sanctuary’ where the inhabitant could escape and experience tranquillity, without opaque walls, within an overly surveillance world. “It’s refreshing to see architecture that is embodying its narrative and purpose without a need for the imagery to do anything more than observe the built response.”

‘The impossible city of Eden is a placeless parallel virtual world for the locked down people with unusual physical boundaries only to enhance the living experience of what they had in the now forbidden “Out There”. Ed's asylum, where he found life. The drawing tries to capture Ed's joy and confidence in his "New World". The city is formulated by implementing the impossible boundaries to the “normal” urban fabric that we are used to and how it was changed by these new physical boundaries (Shifting gravity - infinite space - perception variation).’
