The judges are looking for drawings that excel in their creative representations, originality, mastery of media, narrative and purpose.

Architectural Award: Awarded to a standout architectural representation of exemplar quality. This award recognises all types of architectural drawings, from those that excel in traditional drawing methods, to captivating visualisations to innovative creative imagery. The judges are looking for the most accomplished architectural drawings across all mediums and styles.

Environmental Award: Awarded to an outstanding drawing which is underpinned by an environmental or sustainable narrative. Recognising the importance of environmentally conscientious design and the role creators can take in designing more sustainable futures - this award showcases those that excel in conveying strong environmental awareness, approaches or ideologies through their imagery.

Narrative Award: Awarded to an outstanding drawing which excels in conveying strong narratives and wider dialogues through its medium and beyond its visual representation. The award recognises the most accomplished visual story-tellers, those that have achieved great levels of communication through critical, subtle or emotive visual narratives. The judges are looking for representations that need no words to convey their stories.

Visualisation Award: Awarded to a standout visualisation of exemplar quality. The award recognises the most accomplished visualised imagery that excel as key mechanisms for representation. The judges will assess imagery holistically with particular focus on composition, lighting, atmosphere, materiality and narrative. You are only required to submit one drawing but can submit up to 5 drawings per submission.

The Competition is free to enter.

If you have entered previous Drawing of the Year Competitions run by Archisource this does not prevent you from entering again in 2022. However we will not accept drawings that have been submitted into earlier Drawing of the Year Competitions. Images that have been submitted in previous years will not be considered.

The aim of this Competition is not necessarily to produce new work (unless you want to) but to celebrate the drawings you have already created. The drawings and images submitted must not be more than 3 years old.

There are no rules on the size, shape or style of the drawing but it must be:

    A single file

    Format .jpeg or .jpg

Maximum 10MB upload limit (per image)

Shortlisted drawings will be contacted for higher quality images if necessary.

Animations, multi-page submissions, including presentation boards, will not be accepted.

As part of the submission you are required to submit your full name, email (primary form of contact), Instagram (if applicable as secondary form of contact), age, and your current industry, status and location - students must provide their university information also. We will not accept submissions which have been created by AI generated software and these images will not be accepted for judging. We will use processes to ensure images are not created using AI and if your submission is flagged, you will be contacted to submit evidence of the creation process.

  • Group submissions must nominate a primary contact who will provide their details during submission and will be the primary point of contact throughout the Competition timeline.

It is your responsibility to ensure you have permission from all authors of the image to enter the competition and to properly credit all team members in the submission. You must provide the name and Instagram (if applicable) of every member to ensure we can correctly credit the drawings.

The prizes will all be shipped to the primary contact of the submission. The prize bundles will not change if a group submission wins and it is the team members’ responsibility to share prizes amongst themselves.

  • All validated entries will receive Affinity V2 Universal Licence for free.

When you have submitted your drawing(s) your entry will go through a validation process to ensure it is a genuine and relevant entry. Repeated entries or repeated drawings will not be valid for additional unique codes.

Your submission must comply with the Submission Requirements to be validated for entry into the competition.

When your entry has been approved you will receive a confirmation email and unique code also to download your Affinity V2 Universal Licence for free.

If your entry is not approved, you will have the opportunity to submit alternative images again.

  • Winners will be announced following the 1st April 2023 - final date will be published on archisource.org before the winners announcement.

Winners will then be informed directly by email. Archisource is not responsible if the winner(s) fails to receive the notice due to any incorrect contact details or security settings.
